University Of Southern California
The partner

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California is working to identify new innovations for current and next-generation wireless communication, including space, terrestrial and underwater communication.

The application

The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light, is a very promising technique that can be used to develop new solutions for free space optical communication.

The issue

As the need for communication with airborne platforms continues to grow, OAM modes could be an additional way to transmit more information in free space communication networks with a potentially unlimited number of transmission channels.

The PROTEUS-C solution

The University of Southern California used PROTEUS for OAM mode generation as part of its work. Based on Cailabs’ patented passive technology MPLC, it is currently the only compact commercial solution offering OAM multiplexing.

The PROTEUS module offers high-quality modes with low optical loss and is compatible with a wide wavelength range.
