Les services de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications spatiales sont aujourd\u2019hui indispensables \u00e0 des milliards de personnes \u00e0 travers le monde et leur besoin croit en permanence. Cependant, les capacit\u00e9s actuelles des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications spatiales rencontrent des limites de d\u00e9bit, d\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Des d\u00e9fis auxquels les communications optiques offrent une solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les syst\u00e8mes de t\u00e9l\u00e9communication par satellites s\u2019appuient sur les satellites artificiels gravitant autour de la Terre pour transmettre des signaux de communications tels que la t\u00e9l\u00e9phonie, l\u2019internet ou encore les communications s\u00e9curis\u00e9es, entre diff\u00e9rents points sur Terre. L\u2019infrastructure peut prendre l\u2019envergure d\u2019une constellation, comme le projet de r\u00e9seau internet Starlink de Space X ou bien le projet Hydron de l\u2019ESA. Les constellations r\u00e9centes et celles en construction, cit\u00e9es pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment, forment un r\u00e9seau, un maillage de satellites autours de la Terre capables de communiquer les uns avec les autres avant de renvoyer l\u2019information sur Terre. Ainsi une station sol est capable de communiquer avec un satellite situ\u00e9 de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la Terre. On parle alors de communications inter-satellitaires. Les avantages de ce mode de transmission de l\u2019information sont la couverture mondiale, la r\u00e9silience aux catastrophes naturelles et aux pannes de r\u00e9seau terrestre, ainsi que la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 atteindre des zones \u00e9loign\u00e9es ou difficiles d\u2019acc\u00e8s.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/application\/les-telecommunications-spatiales\/#_ftnref1\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Le panorama des applications des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications spatiales\u202f:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>T\u00e9l\u00e9phonie satellitaire<\/strong>&nbsp;: historiquement les syst\u00e8mes de t\u00e9l\u00e9phonie satellitaire permettent aux utilisateurs de passer des appels t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques depuis n\u2019importe quel point dans le monde y compris les r\u00e9gions les plus isol\u00e9s o\u00f9 les r\u00e9seaux terrestres ne sont pas disponibles. Dans ce cas un feeder link relie l\u2019utilisateur isol\u00e9 au r\u00e9seau de t\u00e9l\u00e9phonie terrestre en passant par un satellite t\u00e9l\u00e9com puis une station sol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>T\u00e9l\u00e9vision par satellite<\/strong>&nbsp;: de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re les syst\u00e8mes de t\u00e9l\u00e9vision par satellite permettent de diffuser des programmes de t\u00e9l\u00e9vision aux t\u00e9l\u00e9spectateurs \u00e0 travers le monde jusqu\u2019aux endroits les plus recul\u00e9s ne b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant pas des infrastructures n\u00e9cessaires. Le feeder link \u00e9mis par une station sol envoie au satellite t\u00e9l\u00e9com un lien montant charg\u00e9 d\u2019une grande quantit\u00e9 d\u2019information que le satellite redistribue en une multitude de signaux vers une multitude de destinations et d\u2019utilisateurs finaux. Dans les m\u00e9ga constellations le signal peut d\u2019abord parcourir le maillage des canaux de communication inter-satellite avant d\u2019arriver \u00e0 destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Internet par satellite<\/strong>&nbsp;: les syst\u00e8mes d\u2019Internet par satellite fonctionnent de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que la TV et permettent de fournir une connexion Internet \u00e0 haut d\u00e9bit dans les r\u00e9gions o\u00f9 les autres infrastructures de communication traditionnelles sont limit\u00e9s et co\u00fbteuses. Des projets tels que Starlink et OneWeb se sont pench\u00e9s sur la question de la connectivit\u00e9 internet aujourd\u2019hui essentielle dans notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 pour les domaines tels que la sant\u00e9, l\u2019\u00e9ducation, l\u2019\u00e9conomie, le secteur des entreprises et du public ainsi que pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>R\u00e9seaux s\u00e9curis\u00e9s<\/strong>&nbsp;: les satellites jouent un r\u00f4le crucial dans la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des communications militaires et la collecte de renseignements en permettant des communications avec des stations sol terrestres, navales et a\u00e9roport\u00e9s. Les satellites de t\u00e9l\u00e9communication militaires permettent ainsi de mettre en place des clouds de combat, des&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/fr\/aerospatial-defense\/communications-laser\/bulles-de-communication-navales\/\">bulles de communications navales<\/a>&nbsp;ou des r\u00e9seaux s\u00e9curis\u00e9s pour un d\u00e9ploiement temporaire sur le th\u00e9\u00e2tre des op\u00e9rations. Ce qui permet de d\u00e9ployer une connectivit\u00e9 temporaire, s\u00e9curis\u00e9 et ind\u00e9tectable. Le transfert de donn\u00e9es asynchrone, quant \u00e0 lui permet de cr\u00e9er un canal de communication s\u00e9curis\u00e9 pour les \u00e9changes d\u2019informations souveraines notamment entre ambassades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Data centers\u202f:<\/strong>&nbsp;les satellites permettent aux op\u00e9rateurs de clouds d\u2019int\u00e9grer rapidement les donn\u00e9es satellitaires dans leurs data centers et ainsi offrir des services plus rapides et plus efficaces \u00e0 leurs clients. Les satellites r\u00e9duisent \u00e9galement la latence pour les clouds en offrant une couverture optimale via des r\u00e9seaux de satellites LEO (Low Earth Orbit) inter-communicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Communications d\u2019urgence<\/strong>&nbsp;: lorsque l\u2019infrastructure traditionnelle est endommag\u00e9e ou indisponible, en situations de crise ou catastrophes naturelles, les satellites peuvent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s pour \u00e9tablir les communications d\u2019urgence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Offshore<\/strong>\u202f: les plateformes offshores sont par excellence des endroits isol\u00e9s sans connectivit\u00e9 o\u00f9 d\u00e9ployer les infrastructures t\u00e9l\u00e9com n\u2019est pas rentable et particuli\u00e8rement complexe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce sont aujourd\u2019hui les canaux de radiofr\u00e9quences (RF) qui assurent les communications des applications cit\u00e9s. Cependant les communications par radiofr\u00e9quences atteignent aujourd\u2019hui leurs limites en termes de capacit\u00e9 ce qui ne permet plus de r\u00e9pondre aux besoins croissants de connectivit\u00e9 de notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Parmi les principales limites, on peut citer la congestion des canaux de communication RF dont l\u2019utilisation n\u00e9cessite l\u2019obtention d\u2019une licence afin d\u2019\u00e9viter les interf\u00e9rences entre canaux. Les licences se rarifient et leur obtention engendre des d\u00e9penses et des d\u00e9lais d\u2019attente importants. Les bandes C, KA et Ku sont les canaux RF les plus utilis\u00e9s, tandis que les bandes X et L sont principalement attribu\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019arm\u00e9e et \u00e0 la recherche. En outre, le d\u00e9bit et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des communications RF sont limit\u00e9s\u202f: la bande passante effective se chiffre \u00e0 quelques centaines de Mbps et atteint ses limites \u00e0 quelques Gbps. De plus, l\u2019\u00e9tendue d\u2019un signal RF couvre la superficie d\u2019un petit pays permettant \u00e0 ceux se trouvant dans la zone d\u2019intercepter le signal ce qui est pratique en cas de diffusion grand public mais probl\u00e9matique pour les communications s\u00e9curis\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Les communications laser en espace libre s\u2019imposent comme une solution de communications fiable et capable de r\u00e9pondre aux besoins croissants de r\u00e9seaux tr\u00e8s haut d\u00e9bit, s\u00e9curis\u00e9s, robustes et accessibles<\/strong>. Les syst\u00e8mes de satellites optiques pourront assurer des liens espace-sol et des liens inter-satellites. Pour \u00e9changer les informations la technologie en question s\u2019appuie sur la propagation de la lumi\u00e8re dans le vide et dans l\u2019air. Plus rapides, plus s\u00fbres, plus compactes et plus faciles \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer que les technologies actuelles, les communications optiques ne n\u00e9cessitent pas de bande de fr\u00e9quence allou\u00e9e, sont difficiles \u00e0 intercepter et \u00e0 brouiller. De plus, elles ont l\u2019avantage d\u2019\u00eatre compatibles avec les technologies t\u00e9l\u00e9coms terrestres ultra haute capacit\u00e9 (jusqu\u2019\u00e0 plusieurs Tbit\/s), b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant ainsi de la maturit\u00e9 technologique de l\u2019industrie t\u00e9l\u00e9coms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En ce qui concerne les t\u00e9l\u00e9communications optiques inter-satellites, autrement dit les OISL (Optical Inter Satellite Links) elles sont d\u2019ores et d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9pandues au sein de constellations t\u00e9l\u00e9com, de d\u00e9fense et \u00e9galement d\u2019observation terrestre. La constellation Starlink de Space X, par exemple est dot\u00e9 de communications optiques inter-satellites. Au m\u00eame titre, l\u2019europ\u00e9en Telesat pr\u00e9voit de munir sa constellation t\u00e9l\u00e9com Lightspeed de terminaux OISL d\u2019ici 2023 alors que les agences gouvernementales am\u00e9ricaines, la SDA et la DARPA, ont des projets OISL, respectivement pour les constellations de connectivit\u00e9 et de surveillance militaires Tracking et Transport Layer ainsi que les projets Blackjack et Space-BACN de la DARPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien que les communications optiques soient utilis\u00e9es depuis les ann\u00e9es 1980 pour leur s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et leurs d\u00e9bits sup\u00e9rieurs, les acteurs des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications spatiales ont jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 la technologie de transmission radio pour les liens sol-espace en raison de contraintes historiques. En effet, sur Terre, ces communications lasers sont limit\u00e9es par les turbulences atmosph\u00e9riques. Les perturbations, caus\u00e9es par l\u2019h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 et les mouvements permanents de l\u2019air, affectent la phase et l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du faisceau lumineux, d\u00e9gradant la qualit\u00e9 du lien lorsqu\u2019il traverse l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re terrestre.
