Port\u00e9s aux nues par leurs adeptes, ils offrent sur le papier le pouvoir de d\u00e9multiplier la bande passante de nos r\u00e9seaux de communications modernes. Leur forme si particuli\u00e8re leur permettrait de coder de l\u2019information sous une nouvelle forme, voire un nouveau mode quantique de propagation de l&rsquo;information. Mais qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019une onde \u00e0 OAM ? Quelle est la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 qui leur conf\u00e8re ces caract\u00e9ristiques incroyables ? C\u2019est \u00e0 toutes ces questions que nous tenterons de r\u00e9pondre dans cet article qui traite exclusivement la probl\u00e9matique des OAM dans le domaine optique.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Repr\u00e9sentation d\u2019une OAM<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Avant toute chose, pour pouvoir se repr\u00e9senter physiquement en optique une onde \u00e0 OAM, il faut revenir au fondement de ce qu\u2019est la lumi\u00e8re. Le but n\u2019est pas d\u2019aborder avec pr\u00e9cision toutes ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s et son comportement. On parle alors de dualit\u00e9 onde-particule. Le mod\u00e8le ondulatoire de la lumi\u00e8re fait que son champ \u00e9lectrique E oscille perpendiculairement par rapport \u00e0 sa direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La polarisation de la lumi\u00e8re d\u00e9crit les directions du champ \u00e9lectrique (ou magn\u00e9tique), au cours du temps se propageant le long d\u2019un rayon lumineux. Elle peut -\u00eatre par exemple lin\u00e9aire ou circulaire voir elliptique. Lorsque ce champ est polaris\u00e9 circulairement, le vecteur de champ \u00e9lectrique E peut tourner dans le plan perpendiculaire \u00e0 ce rayon selon deux sens, horaire et anti-horaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour se repr\u00e9senter ce qu\u2019est le moment angulaire orbital (OAM), gardons \u00e0 l\u2019esprit la propagation d\u2019une onde polaris\u00e9e circulairement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Qu\u2019est-ce que le Moment Angulaire Orbital ?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>En optique quantique, on peut voir ce mouvement de charge \u00e9lectrique comme \u00e9tant le moment cin\u00e9tique des photons de l\u2019onde de lumi\u00e8re \u00e0 une fr\u00e9quence donn\u00e9e. On parle alors de spin ou moment angulaire de spin. C\u2019est le mouvement de rotation propre que peut avoir un photon. (Light Spin Angular Momentum &#8211; SAM).&nbsp;<strong>Le vecteur du spin correspond aux deux \u00e9tats de la polarisation circulaire.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cependant, il existe une autre fa\u00e7on pour une onde \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tique de transporter du moment cin\u00e9tique&nbsp;: c\u2019est le moment angulaire orbital. Le moment orbital angulaire peut \u00eatre imagin\u00e9 sous la forme d\u2019un front d\u2019onde en h\u00e9lice dont le nombre d\u2019h\u00e9lice&nbsp;<strong>l,&nbsp;<\/strong>(ou charge topologique) n\u2019a pas de limite. On parle alors d\u2019onde \u00e0 OAM (OAM \u2013 Orbital Angular Momentum).<sup>(1)<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Propri\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019une OAM<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Une OAM poss\u00e8de donc une grandeur quantifi\u00e9e, son nombre d\u2019h\u00e9lice. Karimi\/Wikipedia)<\/em><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>De nombreux d\u00e9veloppements sont en cours dans le but d\u2019\u00e9changer de l\u2019information en g\u00e9n\u00e9rant ces ondes dites \u00ab ondes twist\u00e9es ou faisceau vortex \u00bb \u00e0 OAM avec des fibres optiques ou dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re. Les ondes \u00e0 OAM pourraient constituer une grandeur suppl\u00e9mentaire pour transporter davantage d\u2019informations dans les r\u00e9seaux de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications futures<sup>(2)<\/sup>. En particulier, on peut imaginer la possibilit\u00e9 de faire du multiplexage spatial d\u2019onde \u00e0 OAM (SDM \u2013 Space division Multiplexing)&nbsp;dans des fibres \u00e0 c\u0153ur annulaire (ring core fiber).<sup>(3)<\/sup>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans un prochain article, vous d\u00e9couvrirez quelles sont les techniques possibles pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer ces ondes \u00e0 OAM.
