Malheureusement, \u00e0 Cailabs, nous ne disposons pas de lasers de 500 kW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partons du principe que l\u2019on souhaite manger ce midi un demi-litre de soupe de l\u00e9gumes d\u2019automne. Supposons que l\u2019on veuille chauffer cette soupe avec un laser Telecom de 20 W de puissance continue, ce qui n\u2019est tout de m\u00eame pas rien, afin d\u2019augmenter de 50\u00b0C la temp\u00e9rature de mon repas. Oublions la physique des mat\u00e9riaux et partons de l\u2019hypoth\u00e8se que toute l\u2019\u00e9nergie du laser est absorb\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re homog\u00e8ne par le m\u00e9lange savoureux de potiron, de courge butternut, de navet et d\u2019une pointe de coriandre. Il faudrait alors attendre 87 minutes pour pouvoir manger une soupe chaude [Calcul en fin d\u2019article]. D\u00e9finitivement le micro-onde s\u2019av\u00e8re \u00eatre un choix plus judicieux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La puissance des lasers&nbsp;: une vraie probl\u00e9matique<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>En dehors de pouvoir chauffer rapidement sa soupe le midi, la limitation en puissance des lasers est une vraie probl\u00e9matique dans de nombreux domaines. Dans les LiDARs ou les contre-mesures, la port\u00e9e d\u2019un syst\u00e8me est limit\u00e9e par la puissance de la source. Pour l\u2019usinage laser, augmenter la puissance des lasers tout en pr\u00e9servant un profil de faisceau propre s\u2019av\u00e8re \u00eatre un vrai d\u00e9fi pour les las\u00e9ristes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Augmenter cette puissance est souvent extr\u00eamement co\u00fbteux, voire parfois impossible, ou au co\u00fbt d\u2019une d\u00e9gradation des performances annexes, comme la qualit\u00e9 du faisceau. La solution est alors souvent d\u2019utiliser plusieurs sources en parall\u00e8le et de les combiner. La particularit\u00e9 de ces sources dites \u00abincoh\u00e9rentes\u00bb, lorsqu\u2019elles sont combin\u00e9es, est de ne pas produire d\u2019interf\u00e9rences. En effet, contrairement \u00e0 la combinaison coh\u00e9rente, il n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessaire de les mettre en phase pour pouvoir les combiner puisque leurs intensit\u00e9s \u00ab s\u2019ajoutent \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Cailabs, on nous demande souvent \u00ab&nbsp;pouvez-vous combiner plusieurs lasers en une sortie de puissance maximale et de divergence \u00e9gale \u00e0 1&nbsp;\u00bb, ou en d\u2019autres termes, de combiner de mani\u00e8re incoh\u00e9rentes plusieurs sources en un unique Gaussien de puissance de sortie \u00e9gale \u00e0 la somme des entr\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spoiler&nbsp;: la r\u00e9ponse est non<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ce qu\u2019il n\u2019est pas possible de faire : combiner plusieurs sources en un seul faisceau unique.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Lorsque nous cherchons \u00e0 combiner plusieurs sources laser diff\u00e9rentes, celle-ci sont naturellement incoh\u00e9rentes. Cela signifie que les faisceaux ne peuvent pas interf\u00e9rer entre eux, que cela soit de mani\u00e8re constructive ou destructive. En cons\u00e9quence, une conversion unitaire, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire sans pertes, ne permet pas de conserver un M<sup>2<\/sup>&nbsp;\u00e9gal \u00e0 1.&nbsp;<strong>En d\u2019autres mots, il n\u2019est pas possible d\u2019obtenir une unique sortie monomode \u00e0 partir d\u2019une entr\u00e9e multimode<\/strong>. Cette transformation reviendrait \u00e0 violer les lois de la physique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour le comprendre, prenons un exemple simple repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sur la figure ci-dessous de 2 faisceaux d\u2019entr\u00e9e monomodes, de puissance P1 et P2. Supposons que nous souhaitons combiner ces deux faisceaux en un unique faisceau de sortie P<sub>out<\/sub>, monomode \u00e9galement. Si la puissance du faisceau de sortie est \u00e9gale \u00e0 la somme de la puissance des deux faisceaux d\u2019entr\u00e9e, cela signifie que toute la puissance des deux faisceaux est dirig\u00e9e vers une m\u00eame et unique sortie. Toute l\u2019\u00e9nergie du laser n\u00b01 va vers la sortie. Nous venons de montrer que toute l\u2019\u00e9nergie de ce faisceau va vers l\u2019entr\u00e9e 1, donc P<sub>1<\/sub>=1, mais aussi que toute l\u2019\u00e9nergie va vers l\u2019entr\u00e9e n\u00b02. Donc P<sub>2<\/sub>=1. Avec un laser de puissance 1, nous venons de construire deux sorties de puissance 1 \u00e9galement. Mais il est surtout malheureusement faux. En pratique, nous avons un ratio de \u00bd dans chaque voie pour pr\u00e9server les lois de la physique. En d\u2019autres termes, un syst\u00e8me transformant deux faisceaux gaussiens en un unique faisceau gaussien de M2 \u00e9gal \u00e0 1 poss\u00e8de 50% de pertes. Un tel syst\u00e8me ne permet donc aucun gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En cons\u00e9quence, combiner plusieurs lasers augmente n\u00e9cessairement le M2 et donc la divergence. De la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re, il n\u2019est pas possible de coupler tous les modes d\u2019une fibre multimode vers une unique fibre monomode sauf \u00e0 utiliser des techniques de recombinaison coh\u00e9rente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alors quelle solution&nbsp;?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais alors comment faire&nbsp;pour augmenter la puissance des sources ? S\u2019il n\u2019est pas possible de combiner des faisceaux non coh\u00e9rents sans augmenter la divergence, il existe heureusement des strat\u00e9gies pour les combiner de mani\u00e8re optimale, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire en limitant au maximum la divergence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dans notre prochain article, nous allons montrer comment, en manipulant la lumi\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/technologie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MPLC<\/a><strong>, il est possible d\u2019augmenter la puissance d\u2019une source, tout en gardant une divergence minimale.
