C\u2019est en bref ce que permettent les&nbsp;<strong>communications optiques en espace libre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-34-1.webp 1x, https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-34-1@2x.webp 2x\" type=\"image\/webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"135\" height=\"155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-34-1.webp\" alt=\"Image 34 1\" class=\"wp-image-8504\"\/><\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><em>Figure 1 : Communication laser Espace Sol<\/em><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans de nombreux domaines, depuis les communications spatiales aux forces militaires, en passant par l\u2019urgence humanitaire, cette technologie permet de&nbsp;<strong>d\u00e9ployer des r\u00e9seaux t\u00e9l\u00e9coms tr\u00e8s haut d\u00e9bits dans des secteurs jusqu\u2019alors inaccessibles<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Malheureusement, le d\u00e9veloppement \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle de ces syst\u00e8mes est limit\u00e9 par l\u2019influence des perturbations atmosph\u00e9riques<\/strong>. Les progr\u00e8s des technologies lasers et de l\u2019optique adaptative att\u00e9nue en partie l\u2019influence de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re mais ne sont pas adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 tous les usages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Quelles sont d\u00e8s lors les nouvelles techniques qui pourraient fiabiliser et d\u00e9mocratiser les communications laser ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Communications&nbsp;laser<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019av\u00e8nement des lasers dans les ann\u00e9es 1980 a permis un essor fulgurant des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications optiques. Si les r\u00e9seaux les plus r\u00e9pandus sont bas\u00e9s sur les technologies fibr\u00e9es, le d\u00e9ploiement de c\u00e2bles optiques n\u2019est pas toujours pertinent voire m\u00eame possible. Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse de r\u00e9tablir rapidement des communications en zones sinistr\u00e9es, d\u2019\u00e9changer des informations avec des v\u00e9hicules ou de connecter plusieurs b\u00e2timents dans des m\u00e9tropoles satur\u00e9es, les communications optiques en espace libre s\u2019imposent comme la solution la plus adapt\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Appel\u00e9e commun\u00e9ment FSOC (pour Free Space Optical Communication \u2013 Communications optique en espace libre ou Communications Laser), cette m\u00e9thode de communication utilise la propagation de lumi\u00e8re dans l\u2019air ou le vide pour transporter une information. Comparativement aux technologies concurrentes, principalement les communications fibr\u00e9es et radiofr\u00e9quences avec lesquelles le FSOC est souvent compl\u00e9mentaire, cette approche poss\u00e8de de nombreux atouts&nbsp;<sup>(1)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u2019abord, les technologies optiques, qu\u2019elles soient fibr\u00e9es ou non, disposent d\u2019une capacit\u00e9 de d\u00e9bit in\u00e9gal\u00e9e. En espace libre, un lien de 10,45 km avec un\u00a0d\u00e9bit de 13,16 Tb\/s a ainsi \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par les \u00e9quipes du DLR (Centre A\u00e9rospatial Allemand). Si ces d\u00e9bits sont encore loin des\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/blog\/fiber-networks\/how-to-reach-10-pb-s-in-single-optical-fiber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10,16 Pb\/s obtenus sur fibre<\/a><sup>(2)<\/sup>\u00a0ils sont pr\u00e8s de 2200 fois sup\u00e9rieurs aux autres technologies sans fil comme les radiofr\u00e9quences o\u00f9 les meilleurs liens longue distance permettent des d\u00e9bits au mieux de 6 Gb\/s sur une distance de 40 km<sup>(3)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-35-1.webp 1x, https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-35-1@2x.webp 2x\" type=\"image\/webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"228\" height=\"145\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cailabs.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-35-1.webp\" alt=\"Image 35 1\" class=\"wp-image-8506\" style=\"width:228px;height:auto\"\/><\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Station de communication laser mobile.<\/em><br><em>\u00a9 Deutsches Zentrum f\u00fcr Luft und Raumfahrt<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u2019autre part, les faisceaux localis\u00e9s spatialement et spectralement n\u2019empi\u00e8tent pas sur des bandes de fr\u00e9quence d\u00e9j\u00e0 allou\u00e9es. Ils n\u2019engendrent donc pas de conflit de bande passante, d\u2019interf\u00e9rence entre sources et ne n\u00e9cessitent pas de licence comme c\u2019est le cas pour les radiofr\u00e9quences. Il est d\u00e8s lors possible d\u2019\u00e9tablir une connexion ultra rapide entre deux points simplement en installant un \u00e9metteur et un r\u00e9cepteur optique. Deux b\u00e2timents peuvent, par exemple, \u00eatre connect\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re s\u00e9curis\u00e9e et tr\u00e8s haut d\u00e9bit (connexion LAN) m\u00eame s\u2019ils ne sont pas reli\u00e9s par une fibre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les terminaux, illustr\u00e9s par exemple, sont mobiles et d\u00e9ployables dans une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de configurations sans n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d\u2019infrastructures r\u00e9seau<sup>(4)<\/sup>. Ainsi, dans l\u2019espace, Airbus cherche \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper des liens ultra-rapides entre des constellations de satellites et des stations au sol<sup>(5)<\/sup>. Comme indiqu\u00e9 dans l\u2019ouvrage de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence d\u2019Andrews and Phillips, les communications terrestres en espace libre sont sujettes \u00e0 un facteur limitant important qu\u2019est la perturbation atmosph\u00e9rique<sup>(6)<\/sup>. Au-del\u00e0 de restrictions \u00e9videntes mais marginales comme la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019objets pouvant bloquer la propagation du faisceau, de nombreux facteurs peuvent att\u00e9nuer l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\u2019est le cas notamment de la fum\u00e9e en zone de guerre ou de sinistre, mais aussi plus commun\u00e9ment du brouillard ou de la pluie. L\u2019intensit\u00e9 lumineuse d\u00e9terminant le rapport signal-sur-bruit (SNR), donc le d\u00e9bit, ces pertes sont fortement pr\u00e9judiciables. C\u2019est particuli\u00e8rement le cas pour des applications longues distances o\u00f9 l\u2019att\u00e9nuation peut se r\u00e9v\u00e9ler importante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surtout, l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re n\u2019est pas un milieu parfaitement homog\u00e8ne. De l\u00e9g\u00e8res diff\u00e9rences de pression, de temp\u00e9rature ou de composition modifient localement l\u2019indice de r\u00e9fraction de l\u2019air et d\u00e9vient les diff\u00e9rents trajets optiques du faisceau. Le front d\u2019onde, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire la forme d\u2019un faisceau optique, est modifi\u00e9 continuellement et de mani\u00e8re al\u00e9atoire durant sa propagation dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re comme illustr\u00e9 sur la Figure 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ces perturbations influent sur la forme, la qualit\u00e9 (la phase) et l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du faisceau lumineux collect\u00e9 et d\u00e9gradent la qualit\u00e9 du lien. D\u2019autre part, pour \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9e efficacement, la lumi\u00e8re est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement collect\u00e9e dans une fibre optique t\u00e9l\u00e9com standard, dite fibre monomode (SMF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ces derni\u00e8res, largement utilis\u00e9es dans l\u2019industrie des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications, sont compatibles avec une tr\u00e8s large vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de composants&nbsp;: sources, amplificateurs, d\u00e9tecteurs, b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant d\u2019une grande maturit\u00e9 technologique. Certains g\u00e9ants du num\u00e9rique comme&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/spectrum.ieee.org\/tech-talk\/aerospace\/satellites\/facebooks-secret-space-lasers\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>&nbsp;ou Google \u00e9tudient d\u00e9j\u00e0 la possibilit\u00e9 de diffuser largement internet dans les zones non fibr\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019aide de ces technologies<sup>(7)<\/sup>. Un&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tech\/internet\/andhra-pradesh-government-signs-agreements-with-alphabet-x-for-fibergrid-project\/articleshow\/62086925.cms\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contrat entre Alphabet et l\u2019Etat de l\u2019Andhra Pradesh en Inde<\/a>&nbsp;a par exemple \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9 pour tester cette approche sur le terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En revanche, pour exploiter pleinement le potentiel des communications laser FSOC, il est imp\u00e9ratif de s\u2019affranchir des effets de la perturbation atmosph\u00e9rique. Sans cela, la fiabilit\u00e9 et la qualit\u00e9 de la transmission seront fortement d\u00e9grad\u00e9es. Diff\u00e9rentes approches existent d\u00e9j\u00e0, notamment l\u2019optique adaptative, technique inspir\u00e9e de l\u2019astronomie, mais ne sont pas toujours adapt\u00e9es ni suffisantes pour atteindre de tr\u00e8s hauts d\u00e9bits en toutes conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De nouvelles approches, passives et compactes, \u00e9mergent actuellement et pourraient aider \u00e0 lever certains verrous technologiques. Il a rejoint Cailabs en 2018 en tant que Chef de projet et de produits. Il est responsable du d\u00e9veloppement et de l\u2019int\u00e9gration de solutions R&amp;D en t\u00e9l\u00e9communications.
