Shaping is\u202fbased on a novel approach\u202fusing\u202fmulti-plane light conversion (MPLC)\u202ftechnology, where transformation is implemented by a succession of transverse phase planes and lenses.\u202fThis non-diffractive approach allows to transform both phase and amplitude of a laser beam without any intrinsic losses.\u202fThe\u202fsuccessive transformations are achieved by reflective texture surfaces, which help to minimize losses and enable high power and energy laser beam transformation.\u202fMPLC elements are tested with 100W femtosecond laser source.\u202fPerformance is not dependent on the wavelength, therefore\u202fMPLC technique is\u202fsuitable for beam shaping of femtosecond pulses with wide spectral bandwidth\u202fwhile\u202fconserving all advantages of\u202fultrashort laser sources.\u202fSpecial design of MPLC elements allows to achieve beam shaping\u202fwhich\u202fis less sensitive to alignment and laser pointing stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We demonstrate\u202fscribing and percussion drilling\u202fof thin foils and massive metals (Cu, Mo, Ni)\u202fusing top-hat and multi-top-hat beam forms.\u202fThe main defiance in using Gaussian beam profiles is to manage the energy which is deposited into the material but not contributing to the ablation.\u202fTop-hat beam shaping\u202fsolves this problem. It\u202fis known for\u202fthe\u202fincrease\u202fof\u202fthe efficiency of laser power use\u202fand significant\u202freduction of\u202fheat affected zone.\u202fWe demonstrate\u202fpatterning with\u202fhigh accuracy and repeatability with no distortion due to heating or residual stresses\u202feven at high repetition rates at MHz level.
