Durri Space Signs Contract with Cailabs for Three Optical Ground Stations Across Oman
Three optical ground stations will form the foundation of a new national capability for high-capacity satellite communications.
- Durri Space has contracted Cailabs to deploy three optical ground stations across Oman by 2028.
- Durri Space will own the network, which will use Cailabs’ proven TILBA®-OGS L10 technology.
- The network will support Oman’s national space ambitions and provide services to international satellite operators.
- The stations will support high-capacity laser communications with low-Earth-orbit satellites, using internationally recognised standards.
Muscat, Oman, 15 October 2026 – Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Durri Space, part of Enjaaz Group, and Cailabs have signed a contract for the deployment of three optical ground stations across Oman, targeted to be operational by 2028. The network will be owned by Durri Space and powered by Cailabs technology.
The project marks a significant step in Durri Space’s ambition to develop a long-term optical communications capability in the Sultanate. The network will support Oman’s national space ambitions, in line with Oman Vision 2040, while opening the infrastructure to international satellite operators with growing data downlink requirements.
Durri Space selected Cailabs to provide the optical ground station technology for the network. Cailabs’ TILBA®-OGS L10 has already been deployed internationally and used to establish bidirectional space-to-ground optical links. The system combines proprietary atmospheric turbulence mitigation with automated operation. Built on a common technical platform, the three stations will form a distributed optical network across Oman. The TILBA®-OGS L10 supports high-capacity communications with low-Earth-orbit satellites and interoperability with optical terminals using widely adopted CCSDS and U.S. Space Development Agency standards.
“Oman has the geography and the ambition to play a meaningful role in the next generation of satellite communications. This network is the first step in building that capability in the Sultanate, and in developing the Omani talent who will lead it. We selected Cailabs because their technology is already proven in operation, and we look forward to opening this infrastructure to international satellite operators.” says Ahmed Al Fahdi, CEO of Durri Space.
“Optical communications are moving from demonstrations to operational infrastructure. Durri Space’s decision to build a three-station network shows the scale of that transition, and we are proud to provide the technology behind it.” says Jean-François Morizur, CEO of Cailabs.
Beyond deploying the initial infrastructure, Durri Space and Cailabs intend to support the development of Omani talent and local expertise in optical communications. Together, the three stations will give Oman the infrastructure to receive high-capacity satellite data, serve international operators, and strengthen its position in the emerging optical communications ecosystem.
