Cailabs is launching the construction of a new 10,000 m² high-tech industrial site in Rennes, marking a major milestone in the company’s scale-up as a global leader in optical ground stations. Developed by GROUPE IDEC and its subsidiaries, with the support of Rennes Métropole, the project aims to meet the fast-growing demand for laser communication technologies, strengthen France’s industrial sovereignty, and support the New Space sector.

This next-generation site—designed as an innovative, multi-level industrial facility—will enable Cailabs to increase its production capacity to 50 optical ground stations per year by 2028, while creating over 100 jobs in the short term and up to 300 positions at full scale.
Built on a rehabilitated industrial brownfield and integrating advanced photovoltaic solutions, the project also embodies a strong commitment to decarbonization, optimized land use, and circular construction practices.

Supported by the expertise of FAUBOURG PROMOTION, the IDEC Engineering Division, and GROUPE IDEC ENR Solar, this new site will become a showcase of French deeptech industrial innovation—reinforcing Rennes’ position as a major hub for space technologies and contributing to the region’s economic and scientific development.
